As you may have heard in the news, the Committee for Safe Communities had to drop its lawsuit against the Alaska Department of Transportation due to running out of funds. The lawsuit has been ongoing since it was filed on October 19, 2023. The press release is here.
This week a NEW lawsuit was filed challenging a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Clean Water Act permit for the Johnson Tract gold mining exploration project at the headwaters of the Johnson River, on private lands surrounded by Lake Clark National Park. You can read that press release (with map showing mine location) here.
Johnson Tract is owned by Contango Ore, the same company that owns 30% of the Manh Choh gold mine.
