Public opinion regarding the Kinross ore haul is overwhelmingly against the trucking plan. As of September 22, 2023, there have been at least 118 Letters to the Editor and 38 Community Perspectives in the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, the Anchorage Daily News and the Delta Wind. Ninety-one percent (91%) of the public opinions are opposed to the trucking plan.
The Governor, our Congressional Delegation, and the Alaska Legislature need to hear from more folks that this trucking plan is unsafe, environmentally taxing and an egregious example of corporate welfare with very little return on investment for Alaskans. Now is the time to voice your concerns (contact info here). Contango Ore is already working on their next mine, Lucky Shot near Hatcher Pass, that will follow on the heels of Manh Choh. (Watch the sales pitch here.) This is a sea change to the quality of life enjoyed by Interior Alaskans. Speak out against industrial ore hauls on rural Alaska highways!
